A Nonfiction November Wrap-Up

Hey y’all! I don’t know if I publicly declared it here but I’ve been participating in Nonfiction November. A friend on bookstagram introduced me to the concept at the beginning of the month and I’ve been rolling with it ever since.

If you’re one of the kind souls who keeps up with my monthly wrap ups then you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t read any nonfiction over the past few months. In all honesty, I was avoiding it for the past few months because I needed more escape and I already read nonfiction essays for my classes all the time. That being said, it’s been nice to get back into the genre and pick up things I’m interested in rather than just being assigned to read these things.

Here’s what I read over the course of Nonfiction November:

Books of the Month ~ October

Hey y’all! As I was writing my October Wrap-Up, I realized I completely forgot to post about the books I bought in October. For those who are new here or the ones who have forgotten, at the start of the year I challenged myself to buy at least one book each month.

I usually get my books from Cultured Books, a Black woman-owned independent bookstore. Even though I didn’t buy these particular books from them this month, I bought the books for my giveaway winners through them. So, if you’re looking to support a Black owned indie and not the corporation that shall not be named, definitely consider checking them out.

I ended up breaking the pattern of one month getting one book and the next month getting multiples. I got three books this month from Button Poetry because one of my favorite poets published his chapbook. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but for those who don’t know, I write poetry regularly and I’m often inspired by poets like these three.

The one where I gush about We Were All Someone Else Yesterday (Book Review)

Omar Holmons debut collection of poems! I’ve been following Omar’s spoken word since high school. I feel like I say that with every poet but honestly it’s the truth. This collection was so refreshing. The bits of humor in the hard parts reminded me that that’s how life goes.

5 Inspiring Quotes from Wolfpack

This is going to be outside of my usual style of posts. I’ve been experimenting a lot lately and I really want your feedback. Let me know what y’all think.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s review of Wolfpack by Abby Wambach, I highlighted so much of my copy. It’s full of inspiring quotes and analogies. I really enjoyed reading Wolfpack and I highly recommend it.

Wolfpack (Book Review)

I received a signed ARC of Wolfpack at the Be the Change event hosted at my university this past Friday. If you read my interview last week, you’ll know that that’s also where I got a chance to meet Elaine Welteroth. This week has truly been remarkable.
