Hey y’all! Welcome to my tour stop for the Rice and Rocks book tour hosted by Hear Our Voices. As I mentioned in my M is for Melanin post, children’s books hold such a special place in my heart and I love seeing Black authors getting the recognition they deserve. It’s beautiful seeing how kids today have access to so many new stories where the main character actually looks like them.
After I received my physical copy from Hear Our Voices, I decided to give it to my youngest cousin (she just turned eight). She kept asking me questions like “Why is the bird so big? What’s rice and rocks? Is the boy going to eat rocks?” as soon as she saw the cover. I told her to read it and find out and so that’s what she did while I sat on the couch with her. She ended up enjoying the story and I’m pretty sure the bird was her favorite part.

I didn’t mention there (but I’ve said it many times before) that I also LOVE The Casagrandes. It makes me so so happy to see that kind of family represented for kids and I just love it. Okay, now let’s get into this review!
Hey y’all! Welcome to my stop of the Hear Our Voices Book Tour for M is For Melanin. Oo, this story is just so cute. I wish it had been around when I was a little kid because I just know I would’ve wanted to read it every single night. I’m thinking about getting a copy for my cousins, the youngest is 7 so I think she might still fall under the age range for it.
Today I’ll be recommending some books based on M is for Melanin. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here before, but I was in the Early Childhood program in high school so I’m actually a certified Preschool teacher. My favorite moments during those classes were always circle time because I loved reading to the kids.
Here are some books I would add to my list if I ever decide to teach Preschool again. These are all books I read through Netgalley so if you haven’t checked out their children’s book ARCs, you totally should!
