The last time I wrote something before quarantine was the week of Spring Break. I had so many high hopes for writing. I was so innocent back then. *le sigh*
Just because I hadn’t been posting, didn’t mean I wasn’t reading. Spring Break was actually a pretty productive pleasure reading week for me. It was nice to read things for myself again. After that, I got back into the swing of required class readings.
*Drum roll please*
Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maika and Maritza Moulite

I finally finished Dear Haiti, Love Alaine over Spring Break. Yes, a book I started back in January. I ended up really liking it and I’ll be posting my full review this coming week. I finally found Haitian authors I enjoy!
For Everyone by Jason Reynolds

For Everyone was so uplifting. I finished it right after Dear Haiti, Love Alaine because I thought I’d be going back to school and I wanted to make the most of my remaining free time. Now would probably be a good time to reread it, it might give me that boost I need. That review will be coming soon too!
Becoming Black by FreeQuency

After I found out school would be closed for at least two extra weeks after Spring Break, I decided to read my second February pick. Becoming Black really hit me in places I wasn’t expecting. It was really nice seeing some of my old favorites on the page and a few I’d never heard.
Extinction by Ashley Dawson

I read Extinction for my Lit and Environment class and it really had me thinking. I’m pretty big on the environment and it was interesting to see how Capitalism has had such a negative impact on the environment.
The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Le Guin

The Word for World is Forest was another Lit and Environment read. It also happened to be Sci-Fi. It was a great read and brought up some interesting questions. I really liked the world building and just how relevant this story is right now.
Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

Binti is the first sci-fi novel I’ve read with a black protagonist. It was really creative and I love the use of indigenous practices.
Haven’t read any of these but would like to read Binti at some point. I was participating in the OWLs Magical Readathon so I read a bunch of stuff and then even more things because I rediscovered my Comixology account. I’ve been bingeing on comics since.
