It’s time for that Monday special! Let’s get our de-clutter on.
The Rules
- 1. Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- 2. Order on ascending date added.
- 3. Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
- 4. Read the synopsis of the books.
- 5. Time to Decide: keep it or should it go

Goodreads Synopsis: Welcome to Nightshade, California—a small town full of secrets. It’s home to the pyschic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom-shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case!
Teenage girls are being mysteriously attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy Giordano is a junior. When Daisy discovers that a vampire may be the culprit, she can’t help but suspect head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” Samantha appears a little . . . well, dead, and all the most popular kids at school are copying her style.
Is looking dead just another fashion trend for Samantha, or is there something more sinister going on? To find out, Daisy joins the cheerleading squad.
I think I mentioned this before, but I went through a big vampire book phase. I was really into Twilight, Marked and The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series from ages 9/10 to 15/16. That was then, this is now.
Verdict: Unhaul

Goodreads Synopsis: By P.L. Travers, the author featured in the major motion picture, Saving Mr. Banks. From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed.
It all starts when Mary Poppins is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins. Who else but Mary Poppins can slide up banisters, pull an entire armchair out of an empty carpetbag, and make a dose of medicine taste like delicious lime-juice cordial? A day with Mary Poppins is a day of magic and make-believe come to life!
I have a confession to make: I’ve never seen Mary Poppins. I know, I know. Before you begin the questions of “Did you even have a childhood?” Yes, I had a great childhood. I just never got around to seeing Mary Poppins but I do know the gist of it. That being said, this is actually a pretty short book and I could probably get an audiobook version from my library app so… I think I’ll try with this one.
Verdict: Keepin’ it

Goodreads Synopsis: Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on 28 September 1330. Nearly seven hundred years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty and Nicholas Flamel lives. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects – the Book of Abraham the Mage. It’s the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that’s exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won’t know what’s happening until it’s too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it. Sometimes legends are true. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.
I love the fact that the author’s name is Michael Scott. That’s so wild, but is it wild enough for me to keep it in my TBR. Then again, the synopsis sounds really good, too.
Verdict: Keep and read

Goodreads Synopsis: Sixteen-year-old Keysha Kendall is a judge’s signature away from foster care when she’s sent to live with the father she never knew. Suddenly she has her own room in his big fancy house, a high-powered stepmother and a popular half brother who can introduce her to all the right people at her new school.
But Keysha can’t forget where she came from. And she won’t let anyone else, either. Why should her father and his perfect family have it so easy when she and her mother had it so hard? And so Keysha hooks up with a rough crowd and does whatever she wants…until what she wants changes real fast….
Another one of those books I would have loved back in late middle school, early high school. It does still sound interesting, but I’m just wondering how likely I am to read it. I’m on the fence about it.
Verdict: Keep?

Goodreads Synopsis: Marley has lived in Heaven since she was two years old, when her mother found a postcard postmarked HEAVEN, OH on a park bench and decided that was where she wanted to raise her family.
And for twelve years, Marley’s hometown has lived up to its name. She lives in a house by the river, has loving parents, a funny younger brother, good friends, and receives frequent letters from her mysterious Uncle Jack. Then one day a letter arrives form Alabama, and Marley’s life is turned upside down. Marley doesn’t even know who she is anymore — but where can she go for answers, when she’s been deceived by the very people she should be able to trust the most?
Okay, now this sounds good. I’m hoping it holds up because it did win a Coretta Scott King Award back in 1999.
Verdict: Keep
That’s a wrap. I only let go of one book this time around and kept the other four, but I’m okay with that. Progress is progress, no matter how small. *insert Dr. Seuss*
