They say you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look good. 2019 has been a year of amazing books that are beautiful both inside and out. Here are some of my favorite YA covers.
Let’s start off with the ones I actually read.
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X would have made this list too, but it was published in 2018. Elizabeth Acevedo is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. It is well worth the hype. I LOVED this book. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out my review of With the Fire on High.
Let’s Go Swimming on Doomsday by Natalie C. Anderson

Let’s not forget about this gorgeous beach read. Let’s Go Swimming on Doomsday was such a wonderful addition to my Haitian vacation.
Slay by Brittney Morris

And of course this storm. Slay made me rethink the way I view virtual reality and this cover is perfect for that theme.
Now onto the books I haven’t gotten around to reading yet.
Let me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson

So… I bought this a few months back, read the first chapters, and fell in love. Then I proceeded to not read anything for pleasure for several months due to the stress of classes and high reading load. That being said, Let me Hear a Rhyme will be my first read of the new year.
Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maika and Maritza Moulite

I also bought this one pretty recently at my local book store. I plan on reading it right after I finish Let Me Hear a Rhyme.
Lovely War by Julie Berry

I actually got a copy of this from a publisher. I’m hoping to get back into historical fiction. They’re pretty fun.
Now let’s get into some books I don’t own, but want to read next year.
Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

I’m a sucker for a cartoon cover. In all honesty, I’m surprised this isn’t a graphic novel. I’ve seen some other bloggers reviewing it and I think I’ll try to give Hot Dog Girl a chance in the new year.
Dealing in Dreams by Lilliam Rivera

I really enjoyed The Education of Margot Sanchez last year and I’d love to read more by Lilliam Rivera. This cover isn’t hurting those chances either.
Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds

Funny story, when I first heard about this book I assumed Justin A. Reynolds was Jason Reynolds’ brother and therefore I would need to get my hands on it imediately. One google search later, turns out they’re not related but now I need this book in my life because the synopsis sounds amazing.
Internment by Samira Ahmed

I saw this at my local bookstore and I’m hoping to give Samira Ahmed’s writing another chance after Love, Hate, and Other Filters.
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

The Hate U Give introduced me to the wonderfulness that is Angie Thomas. I follow her on all forms of social media and I have no regrets about that. With how much I love Angie Thomas, I’m surprised I haven’t added this to my collection yet. That’s definitely something that has to change in the new year.
Now onto books I just thought were pretty this year. I know little to nothing about some of them but I sure do love these covers.
The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg

This Time Will Be Different by Misa Sugiura

All of Us with Wings by Michelle Ruiz Keil

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay

The Revolution of Birdie Randolph by Brandy Colbert

Swipe Right for Murder by Derek Milman

If I’m Being Honest by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley
