The Reading Rush 2019 TBR

BookTube-Athon is now The Reading Rush and I honestly like the change. I totally forgot it was this week until I saw all the TBRs popping up on my feed. I decided to join the bandwagon and post my own TBR.

Check out this cool video for a breakdown of The Reading Rush.

There’s also a website this year where you can sign up, track your pages read, and earn cool badges. Add me on the website if you’re doing the challenge, too. I love seeing everyone’s progress and I’m sure we could motivate each other to keep going.

I just started using the cloudLibrary app and there are a ton of great (and free!) audiobooks there. Some of the books there were also published recently, so I’m definitely excited to finally get to reading these. All you need for the app is a library card.

With that out of the way, check out this TBR.

Each challenge comes with a cool badge. The challenges for this year are:

1/ Read a book with purple on the cover

2/ Read a book in the same spot the entire time

3/ Read a book you meant to read last year

4/ Read an author’s first book

5/ Read a book with a non-human main character

6/ Pick a book that has five or more words in the title

7/ Read and watch a book to movie adaptation

Bonus/ Read 7 books!

My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich by Ibi Zoboi

My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich by Ibi Zoboi

I’m actually already 50 pages into this one, but I got sidetracked by With the Fire on High (review coming soon) so I plan on finishing it during the readathon. I read Ibi Zoboi’s American Street last year, but I wasn’t a big fan so I’m hoping to like this book a lot more.

I received this as a gift from someone who works for Penguin Random House. I’ll probably have a full post about that up next week.

Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson

Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson

This was a book I meant to read last year. I’ve been hearing great things about it for a while and it definitely sounds like the kind of book I’d like. Also, Tiffany D. Jackson is the author of Let Me Hear a Rhyme and that’s another pretty high one on my TBR. This was one of the audiobooks I found.

Odd One Out by Nic Stone

Odd One Out by Nic Stone

It’s another audiobook by an author I love. Dear Martin was such a great book and I’ve heard some mixed reviews for Odd One Out. It also touches on sexuality so that’s going to be pretty interesting. We don’t see that very often in black lit.

Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich

Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich

This is honestly as close as I’m getting to the challenge #7. There aren’t any new movies based on books I want to see and I can’t think of a book I want to reread right now to fit that challenge. This is also an audiobook so I can probably read it in one place.

Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram

Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram

This is yet another book I meant to read last year. I found a copy at my local bookstore for 40% off so I snatched it up like lightning. I’m super excited to read it. It’s also Adib Khorram’s debut so that ticks off #4.

The only challenge I’m pretty sure I’m not doing is #5 since I don’t really read books with characters other than humans.
