Recap

The episode starts with Zoey and Luca being cute or whatever. They’ve finally found their rhythm and we can stop stressing about Zoey’s imaginary problems. Then Luca brings up Michelle Obama visiting the design class that Zoey just dropped. She’s starting to regret her decision but doesn’t want Luca to know that she’s freaking out on the inside.

After the theme song, we see Nomi and Ana at a coffee shop. They’re talking about some great banana bread. They were probably super high. Ana’s getting texts from Aaron, sooo that’s still a thing. They call out Zoey for letting her ego take over.

Zoey tries to get back into the design class by going to Dean Telphy. He’s getting a lineup while she’s there because… well because he’s Charlie. It’s now past add/drop, which explains why it was so easy for Zoey to drop the class back in Episode 4.

After Zoey’s crushed, we see Vivek, Aaron, Jazz and Sky walking through campus. They’re talking about the newest big shot basketball player. Apparently the twins have a problem with home girl’s cleavage. Aaron compares how they feel about Chastity’s photo VS Cash’s and Vivek calls it out as a total double standard. We catch a shot of Aaron sending a text to Ana about more than banana bread.

Zoey visits the design lab to help out Luca with his dress design. He ends up literally throwing her idea in the trash. Luca starts catching a serious attitude and Zoey decides that when he goes low, she’ll go high. I respect the Michelle Obama quote, really stuck to the theme.

She does end up leaving, after he has her try out a cone that looks like one you’d put on a dog. I don’t blame her, I would not be able to deal with all that without snapping.

Jazz and Sky decide to go the girl’s basketball game with Vivek and Aaron. They’re surprised to see that the game has more people than their track meets. Honestly, it wasn’t even that many people. Most of the crowd was dudes trying to get a look at the newest edition.

The guys reveal that Chastity has a huge following on social media. The twins are confused on why she even plays basketball if she has such a huge following and payout. Vivek says it’s all about her image. Aaron and Vivek try to get the twins to think more in terms of sex appeal for their own branding.

Ana and Nomi are still high at the end of the day when they come into the apartment and see Zoey moping. She tells them about Luca’s attitude and how he was mad at the direction Zoey used when ironing. Zoey gets a text from Luca and decides to go see what he needs.

Turns out, Luca’s way more stressed about this project than he was letting on before. He’s tired of being called a genius. Zoey gives him an uplifting speech and starts helping him out with his dress design. She ends up revamping it by adding some sweet decals.

While the twins are working out in the gym, Jazz brings up what Vivek says about having an image. Sky wants to stick to focusing on track, but Jazz things it’s time to switch things up. Apparently YG follows Chastity on Instagram, so Sky ends up agreeing with Jazz. I’m excited to see how that goes.

Everyone was trying really hard to get a glimpse of Michelle Obama. Zoey was kind of in the middle so she didn’t get to meet her hero. On the bright side, Luca told Mrs. Obama that the design was Zoey’s and she ended up signing Zoey’s shoe soooo I guess that’s pretty cool.

At the very end, we see Dean Telphy giving the speech he had planned for Michelle Obama. He’s basically trying to win her away from Barack. Turns out, he gave the whole speech to Aaron as practice. Thankfully, Michelle Obama left yesterday so she won’t have to worry about letting Charlie down.

Discussion

This week’s episode was so great, I forgot to live tweet. I’m loving the direction that Grownish is taking. It’s just getting better and better. I’m excited to see how they expand on the issue of Zoey’s major and whatever this Aaron and Ana thing is. I want to see more Jazz and Sky and I’m happy Vivek got a few more lines last night.

What do you think is going to happen next?

Do you think Zoey and Luca will last the rest of Season 2?

How do you feel about Ana and Aaron?

What do you think Jazz and Sky are going to do?

Do you think we’ll ever learn why/how Charlie became dean?

Will Aaron ever cut that rat tail?

Should I do recaps of any other shows?

Let me know down below!

  1. I forgot all about Doug, especially considering all of their relationship rules. I feel the same way about Aaron and Ana, it’s just a weird situation. The Jazz/Sky instagram stuff could lead to a super important discussion. Sometimes I forget about the rat tail and he turns his head at one angle and I’m just like HOW is it still a thing!

Thank you for your comments, they really keep me going on with these recaps 😀

  2. 1.) I actually think they might use this as an opportunity to get Vivek to notice Sky (the whole IG exploit thing). But it may not last seeing as how it’s all about her assets. And Doug may not like this for Jazz.
2.) I’m not sure. Someway somehow they seem to be going strong so far.
3.) I don’t. I really just don’t have any feelings for them. Indifferent is the word, I think.
4.) Assuming how it ended, they might show us the effects of Instagram exploitation.
5.) Probably not. Some things are unexplainable. If they haven’t already then…
6.) I barely notice it… then he swings his head. He should cut it off.

    Nice discussing with you again!
