Friends With Boys (Book Review)

Oh, and she just so happens to be haunted by a ghost.

Friends With Boys is the story of Maggie and the changes she’s going through. Her mother has left with little explanation, her father has been promoted to police chief, and she’s starting her first day of high school. Actually, her first day of public school since she’s been home schooled up until this point.

We follow Maggie’s journey of understanding what this new family setup means for her and her brothers, as well as maneuvering through the nuances of high school. Oh, and she just so happens to be haunted by a ghost.

I really enjoyed reading this story. The design was wonderful, I found myself staring at certain pages for quite a while. It was on the thicker side for graphic novels, though I still managed to finish it in a matter of hours. I couldn’t put it down, which is often the case for me and graphic novels.

I enjoyed how real the situation felt. It was understandable in the issues that each character faced and the internal conflicts were well represented in the artistry. The expressions were taken into account so carefully, even the picture in the frame accurately portrayed the personalities of the characters.
